A petition was started by a user named Dylan of a Change.org last week with a short and concise message. The message says:
David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have proven themselves to be woefully incompetent writers when they have no source material (i.e. the books) to fall back on.
This series deserves a final season that makes sense.
Subvert my expectations and make it happen, HBO!
The petition gained momentum in no time. The count of people signing the petition is increasing with time. So far 1 million people have signed the petition and demanded for a redo of the season.
The petition was creator Dylan said that he never expected the campaign to go viral it was just a way to vent out the disappointment of the season.
“I was just so disappointed and angry [after episode 4]. It was simply me venting a bit,” he said.
“I think this message is one of frustration and disappointment at its core.
“There is so much awful crap going on in the world, people like me need to escape into things like Star Wars and Game of Thrones. We fans invested a wealth of passion and time into this series… I love this story, and I, like most of you, was crushed to see how the last season (and season 7, let’s be real) has been handled.”
He further added:
“I didn’t make this petition to be an entitled, whiny fan,” he closed. “I made it because I was immensely disappointed and needed to vent. Do I have a solution? I’ve got plenty of ideas, but no, I’m not a Hollywood writer. But you don’t need to be a mechanic to know your car is broken.”
After these negative reactions from the fans, some of the stars came out in defense of the season.
Euron Greyjoy actor Pilou Asbæk responded to the negative comments by:
“You cannot satisfy one billion people, it’s not possible”.
Further Lena Headey who played Cersei Lannister in the series revealed that she had a “mixed” reaction to her ending in the season.
