HOT CHOCOLATE WITH MARSHMALLOW

The cold breeze of winters confides you in your cozy home, making you break off your daily routine of socializing for quite some time. At this moment, when winter blues hit the atmosphere leaving the weather cold and surrounding lonely. Hot drinks adds warmth and enthusiasm in your life. There are many hot drinks to choose from like coffee, tea and eggnog but hot chocolate always standout among them. There are different version of this drink. It can be made with the variation of different spices and mint. In this post I’m sharing a classic recipe of HOT CHOCOLATE.

NUTRITIONAL VALUE OF CHOCOLATE: 

Chocolates that symbolizes love and affection are more than just the token of appreciation, when it comes to it’s nutritional value. A bar of chocolate that tastes sweet, suprisingly protects you from many diesases. Chocolate is not only used in cooking but it is also found in many skincare products. This is because the ingredient have many benefits when it comes to skin. Here are few nutritional benefits of chocolate:

1- SOURCE OF NUTRIENTS:

A quality dark chocolate is enriched in nutrients. It is rich in iron, magnesium , maganese, copper and few other minerals.

2-  SOURCE OF ANTI-OXIDANTS:

Chocolate are powerful source of anti-oxidants. Dark chocolate contains organic compound like polyphenols, flavanols and catechins which acts as active anti-oxi-dants.

3-  IMPROVES BLOOD FLOW AND LOWER BLOOD PRESSURE:

The presence of bioactive compand in chocolate and cocoa powder improves the blood flow in the arteries which may decrease your blood pressure slightly.

4- REDUCES HEART DISEASE RISK:

There are different studies conducted in this regard that shows that chocolate have tendency to reduce heart dieases.

In one of the study conducted with 470 elderly men showed that cocoa reduced the risk of death from heart disease by a whopping 50% over a 15 year period.

Another study showed that

Eating dark chocolate more than 5 times per week lowered the risk of heart disease by 57%

5- SKINCARE:

Chocolates have tendency to protect skin from sunlight.

The flavonols can protect against sun damage, improve blood flow to the skin and increase skin density and hydration

FOR DETAILS: Long-term ingestion of high flavanol cocoa provides photoprotection against UV-induced erythema and improves skin condition in women.

To make a  classic hot chocolate you will need,

  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 to 3 teaspoons HERSHEY’S Cocoa
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • Dash salt
  • Marshmellows

Add sugar, cocoa and salt in a large mug and mix them together. Boil the milk or heat it in microwave at high (100%) 1-1/2 minutes or until hot. Gradually add hot milk to cocoa mixture in mug, stirring until well blended. Stir in vanilla. 1 serving. Top the mug with marshmallows and ENJOY.

ADD ONS FOR HOT CHOCOLATE:

  • If you like your drink with more chocolaty flavour then you can increaes the number of cocoa to 2 tablespoons for the above recipe.
  • If you are more health concious then you can replace the milk with non-fat milk for the above recipe.
  • Moreover, if you want sugar free hot chocolate then omit adding sugar to the above recipe or you can substitute the sugar with sweetening equivalence of 2 tablespoons sugar.
