Never ever in my life I thought that having a backup could be this much important till the day I lost all my blog posts I had written and work hard for. To my dismay, I couldn’t retrieve that data and had to do entire work again. This incident taught me two things. First, the importance of having a backup and second, time management for increasing productivity. After wasting my hours in the hope of retriving the data, I finally gave up and start recalling and making the list of things that I have lost. Once I was done with it and wrote all the posts again. This article highlights the steps that are need to consider while making a secure backup.
Why having backup is important?
All systems at some point of time fails to hold the information. It is because either you make some mistake or the system crashes. There is nothing new in the fact that the disaster occurs when you are least prepared but keeping oneself prepare beforehand is good, which is practiced by least of us. If you are lucky enough not to lose data ever but you can run out of luck any time because mother nature works unexpectedly.
To create a backup it is necessary follow these four steps:
- Declutter your stuff
- Select a backup medium
- Test your backup
- Make a off-site backup
DECLUTTER YOUR STUFF:
Decluttering your stuff is the most important step as you cannot make backup of all the things. The first thing you have to do is to sort out your stuff and make a priority list according to your need. Once you have figured out which stuff is important for you, then you have move to next step that choosing a medium for the backup.
SELECT BACKUP MEDIUM:
Selecting a medium is the most important step when it comes to set a backup. The medium that is liable to the virus or can easily be hacked is the worst choice. The backup reliable backups you can choose from are:
- USB
- HARD DISC
- floppy disk
TEST YOUR BACKUP:
To test the security and reliability of the backup you have selected is another important task. As is the one that will ensure you about how long your data is secure or is able to last.
BACKUP RULE THREE:
The last rule is to create an off-site location to make the backup of your backup data. This location should not be your home or any other place where you have decided to keep your backup because if incase that place is subjected to any disaster like fire then all your data will be lost.
By adopting the simple steps that are mentioned in the post you can save ,our data and time you will waste to retrive it incase of some incident. This data can be any of your documents wether it is legal, official and personal documents or family photographs. And last but not the least don’t forget to create an off-site backup this way your memories are preserve for the lifetime.
