HAIRCARE: FACTS AND FICTION

While growing up and till now we all have heard different old wives tales about haircare which were even followed back by our mothers and grandmothers. When I started growing my hair and looked after them, I realized that some of the facts that were told by our elders were merely notions as they were not helping my hair get better and healthier.

After seeing how much everyone battles with their relation with hair, I decided to iron out the facts from fictions and let you guys know about them too.

Fiction: Braids make hair growth: Braiding does not help hair grow.

Fact: Dandruff causes hair loss: Dandruff is the most common scalp condition, the white flakes which appear on the scalp are made of dead cells that result in itching and vigorous scratching ultimately; eads to hair fall.

Fiction: For every grey hair you pluck out another two will grow in its place: This is an absolute myth because what you do to one follicle doesn’t affect its neighbours.

Fact: Being extremely stress out make your hair fall out: Yes, it’s true.

Fiction: Dyeing your hair leaves them dry and brittle: It’s about using the right product the right way. Excessive use of anything can be harmful to us. Avoid over-processing and excessive chemical experiments with hair.

Fact: Rubbing your head with a towel when they are wet cause damage to them: Wet hair is more likely to break and rubbing them with a towel can rough up the cuticle.

Fiction: Colouring your hair leads to premature greys: Grey hair has nothing to do with your dye. Grey hair is hereditary and can be a result of a large amount of stress.

Fact: If you have dyed your hair, you should use colour protecting Hair Shampoo and Conditioner: Always use colour specific products after dyeing your hair as they will protect both the hair and colour.

Fiction: Keratin Treatment and Extenso are not damaging at all: Everyone please be careful when opting for such treatments as they’re very damaging for hair leaving your hair rough and dull. Hairfall is the most common side effect of these treatments.

How many of you agree with these facts and fiction? Do let us know in the comments.

Chlorine DOES NOT turn hair green! If someone's hair develops a green tint after swimming in a pool, it is not from chlorine - the cause is copper. Great post! Love fact or fiction, mythbuster types of things. Did not know that folks thought braiding hair encouraged growth. Back in the day my Grandmother will tell me that if I ate the crust from the bread it would make my hair curly, which I assume was a desirable trait - though I think she just really wanted me to eat the crust and not waste food. This is actually a really helpful article. I’m not that great with my own hair but hearing some of these facts and non-facts is great.
